Western

Here's the final black & white version of my contribution to AccentUK's upcoming Western anthology. Compare it to the different colour version and you'll see that, apart from the horse, I've not really changed anything, mainly just a simplification of the rendering . I'm not sure about the soundfx, Dave, the author, was happy for me to drop them, but I decided they added to the timing and tone of the story. Luckily I think it works fine in B&W, maybe even better than the colour version. I've even added pages 2 and 3 for you, but you'll have to wait until the comic comes out to see the final 3.

Alan Ladd?

Hey Peter, long time no see, hope all is well.
Not Alan Ladd, I had Gary Cooper in mind, but it was more a 'type' rather than a specific actor I had in mind. The two dead guys at the start art Bad and Ugly though.

These are cracking pages Paul. I thought the colour version was good but the black and white works really well.

ullo, paul. sorry you missed BICS. share a pint in bristol, maybe?

i agree with i.n.j, spot-on composition and design. and i really like the texture, looks 'real', like a mix of dry brush and pastel - lovely stuff!

Dribbs - Cheers. Weird that the sunsetty colour stuff works out ok in B&W isn't it? Makes me wonder why I bothered with the colour now!
INJ - Ta. The scratched b&w film look was complete accident, but I'm going to pretend it wasn't from now on:)
Shane - Thank you. Can't believe photoshop was suck me in, but why fight what's working. Very pleased to discover the brush setting for this one, and putting a 'noise' filter really helped.
Yeah, wish I could've made it to Brum. Will definitely make it to Bristol for that pint. I'm hoping to go to Thoughtbubble at Leeds to make up for missing BICS, anyone going to that?

All good art is an accident. I'm on a panel in London when Thought Bubbles' on I think so I won't be attending. I have the Bradford Animation festival also that week and for me that's plenty of trekking up and down the country for one week. November's going to be a big adventure for me, given as I live a relatively Hobbit like existence and rarely leave the Shire.

Nice one Paul, I think it's great when a creator can use photoshop and make the result look like it was still produced by hand - kudos.
