Opinions, everybody's got 'em

After much faf I've revived my 'review' blog. It's called Happenny Worth and the links to the left. The first few reviews will be from my old review blog and Wazzock's Lantern but I'll be sneaking newer stuff in too. Reading it is not obligatory but if you want to agree/disagree please join in so I can tell you why I'M right and YOU'RE wrong!

Hey Paul

Good to see you're still active in the art world and congrats to you and Becs. Olivia huh? Parenthood's great and you two will be superb at it.

Hi Peter, nice to hear from you.
Yeah, Olivia (special prize if you guess where I liked the name from), how'd have thought we'd change our minds, eh. Looking forward to parenthood, thanks for the vote of confidence.
Glad your liking the reviews Mr Bling, got about 20 (!) waiting to be posted.
Off to check Peter's blog now.

Knew you'd change your mind eventually, most everyone does. Did you read Andi Watson's Little Star? From my own experience it gives a damned accurate idea of what you're in for. Karen says hi and guesses Olivia is after a certain little piggy. Hope so, it's one of Molly's favourite books and all names should come with a story.

Andi Watson can do no wrong (I'm appearing in a book with him, talk about stiff competition) and Little Star was no exception.
Gold star for guessing the piggy connection. Absurdly the shortlist of names was Madeline, Matilda and Oliva, my shameless atempt to instill a love of books! Rebecca also supported a woman called Liv who was fantastic so it all fell into place.
Change of heart came from moving to Lancaster, there's some lovely child friendly places and we really feel at home here, living in a converted farm's put a smile on my face, we're quite sad about moving, but it's time to stop renting.
Hello back to Karen, and to Molly too, she clearly has fine taste and is cute as a button too.

You read damn fast.

Either that or you have people reading books for you, you go home at the end of a long day, plug yourself in and get a download of your reading list content without having to scan a single page. Either that or you share a symbiotic existence with a creature from another gaseous planet that has a ravenous appetite for all earthly knowledge. Either that or you can read super fast, your the last son of Jojobah 5 and your only weakness is custard creams. Either that or you live out some wraith like existence at night, perched on rooftops in your neighbourhood praying on people who come out of libraries. You swoop down like a bat, attach yourself to the back of their heads and suck out their brains and with it everything you need to know about the last book they read, an ability you chanced upon late one night when you were ten and you hadn't read a book you were going to be talking about the next day in class.

I mean, we all do crazy things when we're desperate, so hey, why not?

Or maybe I just save the reviews up cos I'm too lazy to post them after I've written them....
Nah, prefer you version.
I do read a lot, but for some reason I've been plowing through books lately. respite from the real world I reckon.

Don't be fooled. the real world is where it all comes from.

Don't tell me that, not when I'm reading a zombie book! 'World War Z', incase you're wondering.

Brooks wrote the survival guide... so it must be true

paulhd said...

Actually World War Z is written if it was an actually event and the book itself is a series of interviews with survivors in a sort of chronological order from the initial 'outbreak'. I wasn't sure if it would work, so far I'm wrong, it's very enjoyable.
Keep an eye out when it comes out.

Not out yet? You monkey, I'll have to remember that one....

Nope, not out til September I think, and worth a look, I'm on the last quarter now. Advance proofs have to be the big plus about working in a bookshop. Don't always get the chance to read them before theyu come out proper thoughy, which sort of defeats the purpose - I got a copy of Ahmet (son of Frank) Zappa's book The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless that got me buzzing with excitement, still not read it and it's come out to buy proper - it's a lovely looking thing too. Do you see how I turned that into another recommendation?
