Cyberman

Had to dig through some artwork today and saw a bunch of stuff I hadn't seen for a while so I thought I'd post it while I try and do some new stuff.
This fella is an old school Cyberman I drew years ago for a collection of short Doctor Who stories. Looking at it now is a bit weird, at the time I was really proud if it, now all I can see is all the rubbish bits, but funnily enough I still like it, warts and all. I think it's the characterisation I like? The Cyberman are sort of sad so an obsolete design left slumped and forgotten seems to work for me, and hopefully rises beyond it's poorly drawn origins..... longwinded rationalisation for duff drawing over!

Loooooovely! I really like your scratchy pen line, Paul. This rocks. Looking forward to the new series in the Bling household...

Pen line? All brushwork Mr Bling, I have got an old piece of work I did with a pen, I'll post it up soon, hope you like as much as the Cybergeezer.

No, I like the scratchy chunkiness of it. It gives him a suitably battered look, plus I like the way you do chunky and scratchy too.

The Cybermen have always been my favourites. I'm most fond of the 80's design myself.

Ta kelvin. I like pretty much all the Cybermen designs apart from the latest (although I was initially impressed) which just looks too streamlined and, dunno, mainstream?

Yeah, the new ones were okay at first, but I get the feeling that they thought the originals were "silly" and wanted to make them more sensible. Fair enough, except they kept on going on about how you didn't have to change the Dalek design because while it might look silly, it was the script and acting that made you forget that and find them threatening. So why isn't that true for the Cybermen?

Cheers Ian - that's what you get from jetsetting about to 'the London'!
Good point about the Cybermen/Daleks Kelvin - hmmm, had an idea for a Dalek pic ages ago, might have to do something about that.
