Beryl the Peril

After Shane Oakley's excellent post about sketching I thought I'd post my Beryl the Peril scribbles. Should be finishing my DCThompson samples soon. Been painfully slow in coming, the day job's been wearing me out the last few months and hit my productivity, but after going to BICS last weekend I really want to get back into the swing of things.

Hey Paul--Curt here from Groovy Age of Horror. On the subject of sketches, I just wanted to extend you a personal invitation to participate in my "virtual sketchbook," if there's any chance you'd be interested. If not, that's cool, but I'd be honored to include something by you! Either way, keep up the great work!

Cheers Curt, expect something soon!

Again, like your Dennis, way off the current model but still instantly recognisable and full of energy, just like Beryl should be.

She looks like a very naughty little girl. A bit of a peril in fact. Nice design!

I didn't realise you were going to BICs Paul. I would have searched you out and shaken your hand, fer the talented artist you are.

Peter - Cheers. Glad you said 'current', think it's pretty obvious I based my Beryl on the classic Davy Law art.
Jason - Thanks, man, personally I think she looks ruddy evil!
Gary - Thought exactly the same when I saw your post about being at BICS, if you're going to THought Bubble at Leeds will definitely say hello.

Figured inspiration would come from the original. Current models on most characters are beautifully drawn but totally lifeless in most cases. Hope DCT realise what's being offered to them. Can't help but feel if they could recapture some of the anarchic feel of the early days of many of their characters they could totally own the kid's comic market again and Molly'd be reading Beano and Dandy rather than Spongebob Squarepants comics.
